Neovascularization of the Disc

  - Opaque fibrovascular proliferation tissue often appears on the internal limiting membrane (adjacent to the new vessels) and becomes adherent to the posterior vitreous.
 - Contraction of this fibrovascular tissue may lead to:
- Distortion or dragging of the macula
 - Mild to extensive tractional retinal detachment
 - Avulsion of retinal vessels
 - Preretinal and/or vitreous hemorrhagesÂ

Another case of proliferative diabetic retinopathy with:
- Florid new vessels grow from the surface of the optic disc
 - Proliferation of fibroglial tissue that extend to the adjacent retina and vitreous
 - Fluorescein angiogram demonstrates continuous dye leakage from the NVD
