Suzanne Semanson, PT, DPT, CMPT Joins Columbia Programs in Physical Therapy in Dual Role

Suzanne Semanson, PT, DPT, CMPT

The Programs in Physical Therapy are pleased to welcome Dr. Suzanne Semanson to their faculty as the Clinic Director of the Columbia University Physical Therapy Faculty Practice at The Spine Center at The Neurological Institute, located in New York City’s Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. Semanson received her B.S. from the University of Michigan in biological anthropology and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University. She  is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a Certified Manual Physical Therapist, and a certified Yoga and mat Pilates instructor. She specializes in providing individualized outpatient physical therapy services to patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal, sports, and spine injuries. As an Instructor of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine for the Programs in Physical Therapy, she will continue to participate in Examination and  Evaluation, Therapeutic Exercise, and orthopedics courses, as she has for the last 10 years as an adjunct lab instructor.

Suzanne Semanson, PT, DPT, CMPT comes to us from NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries (HCDI). She specializes in dance medicine and has worked with NYC’s dance and Broadway companies for over 10 years. While at HCDI, she provided physical therapy services to NYC’s dance community, conducted clinical research, and presented at conferences. Additionally, she designed, launched and directed their Performing Arts Physical Therapy Fellowship Program, which is among the first in the nation.

When she’s not working, Dr. Semanson enjoys a variety of activities, including sailing and volunteering at NYC’s South Street Seaport Museum, teaching and practicing yoga, taking dance classes and spending time with friends and family.
