Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy
The Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy is a 12-month program designed to provide physical therapists with advanced orthopedic clinical skills in a formal and mentored setting, and structured educational experience to advance knowledge and skills. The resident(s) will be involved in direct patient care at affiliate clinics in the NYC area.
The CUIMC Clinical Residency in Orthopedics' Mission
The mission of the CUIMC Clinical Residency in Orthopedics is to provide advanced orthopedic physical therapy clinical training and promote excellence and leadership in the field. Through exposure and elective activities in all areas, residents will be prepared for future leadership in the professional areas of their greatest interests, whether clinical, educational, research, administrative, or service. Designed for the licensed professional, the Physical Therapy Residency in Orthopedics' curriculum is based on the concepts of adult learning and will have resident-driven and case-based elements. Clinical knowledge and skills can be individualized to the needs of the practitioner and their patients in the context of clinical problem solving and reflective practice. Through exposure and elective activities in all areas, residents will be prepared for future leadership in the professional areas of their greatest interests, whether clinical, educational, research, administrative, or service. Program goals will be achieved through didactic education, participation in research, mentored teaching opportunities, professionally mentored patient care experiences, and independent patient care.
The clinical residency program's goals and objectives are directed toward an in-depth mentoring experience in the management of patients with a variety of orthopedic impairments and are based on the Orthopedics Description of Residency Practice (DRP).
The CUIMC Clinical Residency in Orthopedics will provide a diverse and dynamic environment for post-graduate residency study, practice and research, featuring opportunities to work with experienced orthopedic clinicians in a mentored environment.
