Programs in Physical Therapy 80th Anniversary

This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Columbia University Programs in Physical Therapy!  The University established the Program in 1942, with graduates earning a certificate in Physical Therapy. From 1942-1945 it was housed on the Morningside campus but in 1946 it was moved to the Health Science campus, adjacent to New York Presbyterian- Irving Medical Center. In 1960 a Baccalaureate degree began to be offered and in 1980 we moved to a post-baccalaureate entry level program offering the Master of Science.  In 2003 our program would initiate a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree with the first DPT class graduating in 2006. Following this transition to the doctoral level for our entry level professional degree, the Program continued to strive for excellence and explored post-professional educational opportunities. In 2019, we went on to become the Programs in Physical Therapy, offering three post-professional programs: an EdD in Movement Sciences (Physical Therapy), in collaboration with Teachers College, an Orthopedic Residency and Performing Arts Fellowship.

The program will be hosting several celebratory events and kick-off our student scholarship campaign during the year. We are very excited about this special occasion and in recognition, please find our special 80th anniversary logo below!
