How to Establish a New Club
The VP&S Club encourages students to create opportunities that align with our mission. Please see below to learn more about the process to start a new club or specialty interest group:
- Student Support: Since our funding comes from medical alumni, your new club must be supported by VP&S medical students. Non-medical students can join and serve on boards for CUIMC-wide organizations.
- Proposal Evaluation: Proposals are reviewed mid-October and mid-January. To learn more about timelines, discuss your idea and request proposal guidelines, contact the Director for Student Activities. Check here to preview a sample proposal.
- Getting Recognized: After an initial meeting with the Director, interested students should submit a proposal to the VP&S Club Director along with a copy of their club constitution (samples available upon request). Submitting a proposal does not guarantee recognition.
The VP&S Faculty Advisory Board will review and vote on your proposal. Approved clubs will move on to a training and preliminary year; the Director will follow-up with clubs that are denied recognition to discuss alternative options.
- Preliminary Year: All new or reactivated clubs start with a preliminary year, which includes three semesters of activity (2 events per academic semester). Groups that successfully complete the programming requirements will achieve permanent status provided that they maintain an elective executive board and membership roster.
Additional Information for Specialty Interest Groups:
- If starting a sub-specialty group, consult the VP&S Club Director for possible collaboration with an existing group.
- Active specialty interest groups must coordinate with their medical department for funding.
All VP&S Clubs are bound by the policies and procedures outlined in the VP&S Club Manual.
