Welcome From the Chair
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and house officers of the Department of Medicine, I am pleased to welcome you to our Internal Medicine Residency Program. For the past century, graduates of our residency program have become leaders in biomedical research, patient care, public health, and community advocacy. Leveraging this rich tradition, we strive to train the next generation of physician leaders as they embark on their careers in medicine.
Our program emphasizes house staff education, well-being, and career development. We offer myriad opportunities for clinical care, education, research, and community service, supporting each resident’s individual path. The opportunities for scholarly pursuit and career development are made possible by the close partnership between Columbia University, a top-tier research university and NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation’s largest and most highly regarded health systems. Situated in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the world, we also pride ourselves on our committed partnership with the residents of Northern Manhattan and the South Bronx.
All our faculty, many of whom are leading cutting edge medical programs, attend on the wards. Our two-attending system embodies our commitment to multidisciplinary care and education, enabling trainees to engage with leaders in the field. The countless opportunities for research, education, community care, and other scholarly pursuits are matched only by our house staff‘s enthusiasm for learning and excellence.
We are a close-knit community, and our house staff are the core of our program. Each year we welcome a talented and diverse class that can effect real change at all levels of the health care system. We look forward your applications and inquiries.
