Columbia Chapter of Socially Responsible Surgery Organization
The purpose of the Columbia Chapter of Socially Responsible Surgery is to advance surgical equity through service, education, research, and advocacy.
The aim and goal of Socially Responsible Surgery is to establish social responsibility as a core value of surgical practice. This includes promoting equal access to surgical care, eliminating healthcare disparities, increasing patient advocacy, and educating and serving our communities. This organization will provide medical students with an excellent supplement to their medical clinical education, allowing them to train through the lens of social justice, ultimately equipping them with the tools to support patients faced with social challenges and advocate for enhanced accessibility to equitable surgical care.
Socially Responsible Surgery is a national organization that houses hundreds of medical students, residents, and attendings who are dedicated to promoting equity, advocacy, and accountability in surgical care and education. Our work focuses on identifying and addressing healthcare disparities, increasing community engagement, and ensuring that surgical care is accessible and inclusive for all patients. By integrating research, education, and service, we strive to advance socially responsible practices in surgery and healthcare more broadly.
