EQUIPS Pathway

The EQUIPS pathway is designed for residents who find themselves asking, "How can we make this process better?" Whether you are interested in a career in quality and patient safety or just want to improve how a specific unit or process operates, this track gives you the tools to turn those ideas into real-world changes.

Residents will gain the core skills needed to develop successful careers in quality improvement and patient safety, lead projects, and improve patient care through a hands-on curriculum including one-on-one mentorship, integrated didactic and lab meetings every 6-8 weeks, and meetings with quality leaders.

All residents will complete a quality project, present a poster at the Annual NYP Quality Symposium, participate in the quality improvement elective, and present either an M&M, a high-value care talk, or a readmission-RCA at the quality forum annually. Applications will be solicited during the intern year. If you would like to learn more, please email Maddy Kaufman at mk4021@cumc.columbia.edu.
