P.U.S.H.
(Pick-Up Sports & Health)

P.U.S.H. sees pick-up sports as an untapped vector in which medical students are able to engage with local youth and use the shared language of sports to build rapport, trust, and mentorship. P.U.S.H. is committed to fostering partnerships with existing community organizations to gain insight into youth needs and leverage the incredible grassroots work already established.
Mission Statement
Through Pick Up Sports and engaging, age-appropriate health lessons, we will inspire and equip youth in Washington Heights—traditionally underrepresented in medicine—to lead healthy lives, pursue post-secondary education, and enter health professions. Our vision is to promote health equity by empowering a diverse new generation of medical leaders who reflect and serve their communities in Upper Manhattan.
P.U.S.H. Coaches In Action
P.U.S.H. Senior Coaches and volunteers spend two Fridays each month throughout the academic school year at P.S.128, educating youth between the ages of 5 to 12 years old on various health topics including mental health, lung health, neuroanatomy, cardiovascular health, oral hygiene, and many more! Below you will see Coaches teaching a lesson; click here for an example lesson plan on lung health.
