Financial Aid

At Columbia University's Programs in Physical Therapy, financial aid is available to assist students who require support beyond their personal and family resources. Prospective students can begin the financial aid application process upon receiving an admission offer and confirming enrollment at Columbia University. 

Scholarships

In addition to loans, we offer various scholarships to eligible incoming students who meet specific criteria.

The description, eligibilty criteria, and application process for each scholarship are provided below.

Scholarships for Incoming Students 

All scholarships for incoming students will be awarded prior to matriculation in the fall semester of the first year and renewed annually on the condition that the recipient maintains a minimum of 3.0 Grade Point Average. 

Lion Scholarship 

All incoming, accepted applicants are automatically eligible to be cosidered for the Lion Scholarship. A limited number of recipients may receive up to $15,000 annually. Selection for this scholarship is based on faculty recommendation of candidates that exhibit the characteristics of an ideal Columbia student: one who has evidence of leadership skills and a commitment to service or research; has demonstrated grit, resilience, and good character; and who has a record of high academic achievement. Selected applicants are notified of their Lion Scholarship award in their program acceptance letter. 

Academic Scholarship 

Selection for the Academic Scholarship considers an applicant's Science Grade Point Average and scores on the Graduate Record Examination. Accepted applicants who demonstrate superior performance in these criteria are automatically eligible to be considered for this scholarship. The number of students to receive this award and the amounts may vary annually. 

Programs in Physical Therapy Student Scholarship 

All incoming students may apply for this scholarship. The number of students to recieve this award and the amounts may vary annually. Selection for this scholarship considers an applicant's performance in their faculty interview, past academic achievement, financial need, character, and personal circumstances. 

Scholarships for Current Students 

Mushkin Endowment Award

All second-year DPT students are eligible to be considered for the Mushkin Endowment Award. Selection for this award occurs following the Spring semester of the second year and is based on faculty recommendations of students who have demonstrated significant growth during their tenure within the program, in both didactic and clinical settings. Candidates are mature adult learners who actively contribute to the class culture through exceptional professionalism and interpersonal skills, and who demonstrate responsibility and accountability for their learning experience. These are one-time awards that are distrubuted in the Fall semester of the third year.

Snow Endowment Award

All second-year DPT students are eligible to be considered for the Snow Endowment Award. Selection for this award occurs following the Spring semester of the second year and is based on faculty recommendations of students who have demonstrated significant growth during their tenure within the program, in both didactic and clinical settings. Candidates are mature adult learners who actively contribute to the class culture through exceptional professionalism and interpersonal skills, and who demonstrate responsibility and accountability for their learning experience. These are one-time awards that are distributed in the Fall semester of the third year. 

Clinical Education Scholarships*

The Clinical Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to students completing their Terminal Clinical Education Experiences outside of the New York metropolitan area. Students may apply in the Fall of the third year, and awards are distributed at the start of the Spring semester of the third year. 

*Eligible students must already be receiving financial aid. Students on International clinical placements do not qualify.
