These awards honor alumni who have made outstanding achievements in medical research by advancing their field and creating tangible impacts on patient care.

These awards honor alumni with notable achievements in clinical medicine that significantly advance healthcare outcomes.
Virginia Kneeland Frantz ’22 Award for Distinguished Women in Medicine
This award is a testament to the remarkable achievements of Dr. Virginia Frantz, MD ’22. Her breakthroughs significantly advanced medical research, basic science, and clinical medicine. This award recognizes an alumna of VP&S who has made significant accomplishments in scientific research or clinical care. It is a tribute to the invaluable contributions of women in medicine.
Gold Medal for meritorious service to VP&S and its Alumni Association
This award is given to honor a graduate who has demonstrated an active commitment through volunteerism, peer/community engagement, and other similar displays of support and service to VP&S.
Award Eligibility/Requirements
- Nominations may be made by self, alumni, or the alumni office.
- Nominee must be a graduate of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
- Gold Medals are reserved for alumni celebrating more than 25 years of graduation from VP&S and Silver Medals are reserved for alumni celebrating 25 or fewer years of graduation from VP&S.
- All documentation must be submitted by the appropriate deadline. Nominations received after the deadline will be added to the nominee roster for the following year.
- Required documentation includes:
- Nomination form
- Bio-sketch (preferred) or CV of the nominee
- Nominations are significantly bolstered when accompanied by detailed evidence of scholarship, including, but not limited to, peer-reviewed publications, grants (including scale and scope), invitations to speak, clinical innovations, quality and practice improvement, and leadership roles on committees or academic societies

The VP&S Alumni Honors & Awards committee reviews nominees in fall for the following year. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, so we invite all alumni to submit a nomination today!
