External Hordeolum
  
  External Hordeolum is an acute localized inflammation of the lash follicles. It is most commonly caused by Staphylococcus species infection.
Clinical Features
- Symptoms: localized lid tenderness
 - Signs:
- Acute onset of lid swelling
 - Visible nodule within the lid with eryhtema of the overlying tissue
 - Pus may sometimes be visible at the glands orifice
 
 
Management
- Warm compress and gentle lid massage
 - Antibiotics ointment such as erythromycin
 - Surgical incision or drainage procedure for chronic cases
