In addition to the resources provided by Columbia, a variety of mentoring, application, and financial support resources are available within the broader genetic counseling community.
Genetics Opportunities, Learning, Development, and Empowerment Network (GOLDEN)
GOLDEN is dedicated to increasing the awareness of genetic counseling among Black students, primarily at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). For prospective genetic counselors, GOLDEN also provides mentorship throughout the graduate school application process.
"The Pooja Way" Scholarship Fund
This fund provides an annual scholarship to an international genetic counseling student who exhibits qualities of love, optimism, humor and resiliency, created to honor Pooja's spirit and encourage others to live "The Pooja Way."
The Undocu GC Network provides guidance to undocumented GC students and GCs as they navigate throughout their genetic counseling journey and a Prospective Student Scholarship is available. Recipients of this scholarship are eligible for an application fee waiver from the Columbia GC Program if applying in the same year.
GC Prep was founded to create a clear roadmap for genetic counseling graduate school applicants all the way into their first jobs, with the goal of providing free services to underrepresented racial, LGBTQIA+, differently-abled, and low-income applicants.
Genetic Counselor Educators Association (GCEA)
GCEA provides information to prospective genetic counseling students. This organization also provides waivers for the NMS Match fee, more information about applying is posted annually on the NMS Match website. Recipients of the GCEA Match Fee Waiver are eligible for an application fee waiver from the Columbia GC Program if applying in the same year.
