Curriculum

Columbia is committed to training the next generation of genetic counselors through innovative models of care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership in healthcare delivery. Students learn to evaluate and implement approaches that increase access to genetic counseling and testing while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. Through this work, graduates help advance a future in which genomic medicine is accessible, effective, and responsive to the needs of all communities.

Our curriculum is innovative and challenging, supporting students in the development of skills necessary to not only successfully practice as a genetic counselor but also to lay the foundation for them to participate in the advancement of the profession after graduation. Students are supported through our curricular design in developing the skills and qualities to recognize and meet the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds and to address existing healthcare disparities.
