The Virginia Kneeland Frantz Society for Women Faculty offers and sponsors several programs that focus on the needs of women faculty at CUIMC. 

The CUIMC Leadership and Management Course for Women Faculty

The CUIMC Leadership and Management Course for Women Faculty is a four-day program designed for women faculty who currently have leadership/management responsibilities or who wish to include these in their career goals. Participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary for current and future leadership positions in the academic health sciences by utilizing active learning methods, including case studies, discussion and the development of a personal project. It also addresses how gender nuances leadership and management roles.

VKFS Peer Mentorship Series

This series, hosted by the VP&S Faculty Advisory Deans, focuses on providing mentorship, guidance, strategies and networking for women faculty along the clinician-educator, basic science, and clinician scientist pathways. These groups allow faculty to define career goals, as well as exchange information and support.

Group Coaching Program for Women Faculty

This program is designed to help women faculty collaborate and develop strategies to address gender related issues in the workplace, irrespective of career path, through the use of case studies.

Managing Conflict, Negotiating Differences Workshop

A workshop for women faculty with content nuanced to the special challenges faced by women in leadership roles.

Participants work through a diagnostic negotiation to help assess current negotiation/conflict resolution skills. A three-stage negotiation process is utilized to provide a practical approach for conflict situations often encountered. Participants are taught skills for conflict analysis and planning, dialogue to gain understanding and points of unity, and resolution to creatively transform the conflict. This session is a blend of theory and practice, including presentations and small and large group interactive exercises and discussion.

Columbia University and Work/Life Demands

This brown-bag session features a presentation and discussion led by the associate provost and director of Work/Life on the work/life policies, benefits, services and programs available at Columbia University.

Women in Medicine Networking Event

A networking event for women student and faculty members in the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

VKFS Annual Lecture

The Virginia Kneeland Frantz Society for Women Faculty offers a variety of faculty-driven programs and opportunities that target the specific needs of women faculty. Among these programs, the VKFS annual lecture provides the entire CUIMC community with the opportunity to hear directly from women leaders from a variety of professional fields on their perspectives and experiences with success and leadership.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The Office of Faculty Professional Development, Diversity & Inclusion and the Virginia Kneeland Frantz Society for Women Faculty provide funds to partially cover the registration costs for full-time VP&S faculty members to participate in professional development seminars for women and minority faculty offered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
