Application Process

The Department of Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center accepts applications and supplemental documents through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participates in the American Urological Association Urology Residency Match.

In order for your ERAS application to be complete, the following must be submitted. We are aware that some of the required material may not be available by the deadline. However, please ensure your recommendation letters are uploaded by the deadline date.

  • Completed application
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official transcript from your medical school
  • Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • USMLE board scores

Once the application is completed, the Interview Selection Committee reviews each application and grants a limited number of interviews. Applicants will be notified in November if they have been selected for an interview. For additional information, please email Laura Vargas, Program Coordinator, at lp2224@cumc.columbia.edu.

Interview

The 2023 Residency interviews take place on the following dates:

  • November 17, 2023
  • December 7, 2023

We are now offering subinternship for the months of July through September. The objectives of this rotation are primarily to expose the student to advanced concepts in urology, to further your understanding of what a career in urologic surgery will entail, to give you an understanding of what it is like to be a urology resident at NYP-Columbia, and to introduce you to the structure and culture of our department at Columbia. This will be accomplished through comprehensive clinical exposure, weekly small group meetings, and regular feedback sessions. In addition, this rotation will serve as a means of evaluating your potential for future accomplishments in this field.

Please note: enrollment is now closed for 2023.

Selection Process

The final resident selection will be submitted to the AUA Urology Residency Match. Match results will be sent to urology programs, applicants, and medical schools on February 1, 2024.
