Supplies and Setup
Supplies
- Grape(s) – we prefer red grapes
- Marking pen
- Toothpick
Set up
- Using a marking pen, mark 4 lines on the grape skin, splitting it into 4, like a beach ball
- Pass the toothpick through the grape lengthwise, as close to the middle as possible
Objectives
Primary objectives
- Dissect two pieces of skin off of the grape, leaving it in an alternating pattern of skin/flesh. To the best of your ability:
- Keep skin pieces removed intact with no buttonholes
- Leave no grape pulp on the skin pieces you remove
- Avoid deep cuts into the flesh of the grapes
Technical objectives
- Handle tissue carefully and gauge tension visually as you dissect
Scoring Rubric
How long did it take you to complete both grapes?
- Under 10 minutes (25 points)
- 10-15 minutes (20 points)
- 15-20 minutes (15 points)
- 20-25 minutes (10 points)
- 25-30 minutes (5 points)
- >30 minutes (0 points)
