    Justin R. Hawkins received his PhD (distinguished) in ethics from Yale University in 2024. He holds an MAR in the Philosophy of Religion from Yale Divinity School and a BA in Government from Georgetown University. At Yale he was part of the teaching team for the Life Worth Living program, and received a Prize Teaching Fellowship for outstanding undergraduate teaching. His research interests include virtue ethics (especially the virtue of magnanimity), disability theory, bioethical questions related to Down Syndrome, and the dignity of persons with profound cognitive disabilities. He joined the center in 2024.

    Paul Rezkalla is Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics in the Center for Medical Ethics at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and an Associate of the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion at the University of Oxford. Before coming to Columbia, he taught philosophy at the United States Air Force Academy, Baylor University, and Hillsdale College. He holds a PhD in philosophy from Florida State University, an M.Sc. in cognitive and evolutionary anthropology from the University of Oxford, an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Birmingham (UK), and an M.A. in theology from Saint John’s University (NYC). His work has been published in academic venues including the Journal of Medical Ethics, American Journal of Bioethics, Journal of Medicine & Philosophy, Oxford Studies, and Religious Studies.

  • Charlene Sathi, MS

    Charlene completed her HBSc at the University of Toronto with a double major in Human Biology: Health & Disease and in Philosophy: Bioethics, prior to moving down to New York. She received her MS in Bioethics at Columbia University and proceeded to work as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Columbia’s Department of Medicine: Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, in conjunction with the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene: Bureau of Tuberculosis, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She joined the CCME in 2020.
