Paul Marks Scholars Program

The Paul Marks Scholars Program supports the recruitment of outstanding early career scientists with a primary tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in one of the the basic science departments at VP&S who have distinguished themselves as exceptionally promising in their field. This award is named in honor of Dr. Paul A. Marks, an internationally renowned physician-scientist, and an exceptional academic leader. Dr. Marks, who developed the Department of Human Genetics at VP&S and served as its first chair, was also the Dean of the Faculties of Medicine and Vice President for Health Sciences. The program funds a maximum of three scientists up to $125,000 per year for a period of three years ($375,000 maximum total per selected Scholar).

Eligibility

The nominated faculty member must be in the process of being recruited or within the first 3 years of their initial appointment as a primary tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in one of the the basic science departments.

How to Apply

This program is triennial with its next cycle in 2024. 

Scholars can only be nominated by their department, center, or institute head. An email request will be sent to department chairs requesting a letter of nomination and the nominee's CV. All letters of nomination must highlight the value that this person brings or will bring to the University, the nature of the recruitment process,  and should elaborate why they are deemed to be exceptionally promising in their field.
