Overview

Darryl Abrams, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and a medical intensivist and ECMO attending at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is the Associate Medical Director and Director of Research of the Medical ECMO Program at the Center for Acute Respiratory Failure, as well as Medical Director of Intermediate Care and Pre-Critical Care Services.

He has been actively involved on several committees within international ECMO organizations, including the International ECMO Network (ECMONet) and the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). Areas of clinical and research expertise include the role of Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) in acute and chronic respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension, with particular interest in the ethical implications of increasingly sophisticated life-sustaining technologies.
