Richard Spiegel '70: Gold Medalist for Meritorious Service to VP&S and its Alumni Association

Richard Spiegel '70 was presented with the Gold Medal for Meritorious Service to VP&S and its Alumni Association at the VP&S Alumni Reunion on April 22, 2023, in New York City.
 

A psychiatrist specializing in adolescent medicine, Dr. Spiegel is an outstanding class chair and member of the VP&S Alumni Community. He spearheaded his class’s fundraising efforts to support scholarships for current students and raised funds for the lounge at 50 Haven Avenue, which bears the name of the Class of 1970. He works tirelessly to keep his class engaged, resulting in historically high participation in his class’s 50th-anniversary booklet. For each alum who did not submit a biography, Dr. Spiegel went to great lengths to create heartwarming (as well as entertaining) tributes. He calls classmates to stay connected and was a key strategic planner when the pandemic forced the postponement of his class’s golden reunion. Dr. Spiegel’s warmth, tenacity, and generosity are exemplary, and the VP&S Alumni Association is grateful for his meritorious service. 

This award is given to honor a graduate who has demonstrated an active commitment through volunteerism, peer/community engagement, and other similar displays of support and service to VP&S.
