Harlem Hospital General Practice Residency is a CODA-accredited residency program that focuses on providing quality comprehensive dental care to a diverse patient population of New York City. Currently, the dental clinic is a state of the art facility with 23 dental operatories and x-rays units, which is located on the Harlem Hospital Campus, in the Samuel Kountz Building, Mezzanine floor.
The dental department maintains current dental technology, including the use of digital periapical x-rays and panorex for diagnosis and treatment of dental disease. In addition to cutting-edge radiographic modalities, residents of Harlem Hospital dental clinic have the unique opportunity to work with electronic patient records as well as gain insight into the billing practices of private/public insurances.
About the Program
Harlem Hospital provides residents with an abundance of clinical and didactic skills that can be utilized in a multitude of settings such as geriatric, special needs, and in or outpatient hospital setting. The attending staff consists of general dentists as well as specialists in all disciplines of dentistry, who have a wealth of experience in the private practice and academic sectors of dentistry. Upon completing the program, our residents are prepared to practice comprehensive dentistry in a variety of settings: rural, urban, hospital dentistry, and academia utilizing advanced treatment modalities.
During the one-year residency program, accepting nine positions per year. Our residents are required to rotate in emergency medicine, anesthesia, and our oral surgery departments. These general practice residents are given a unique opportunity to train in a hospital setting and work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Our goal is to provide residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to integrate multiple disciplines into an individualized, comprehensive, sequenced treatment plan using diagnostic and prognostic information for patients with complex needs.
