Nephrology Fellowship Program
Welcome to the Nephrology Fellowship Program at Harlem Hospital Center, where we are committed to providing an exceptional clinical training experience for aspiring nephrologists. Our program is characterized by a unique blend of hands-on training, personalized faculty mentoring, and a strong focus on education, equipping fellows with the expertise needed to excel in the field of nephrology.
One of our program's strengths lies in the diverse and extensive patient population we serve, encompassing a wide spectrum of clinical disorders related to nephrology and hypertension in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Notably, we take pride in our dedication to serving the large African American community, fostering proficiency in addressing their unique clinical needs. Our affiliation with the seminal African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension study (AASK) and our participation in the ongoing "All of Us" study further enhance our fellows' exposure to cutting-edge research and advancements in the field.
At Harlem Hospital, we have also gained approval as a recruitment site for an investigational drug used in APOL1-FSGS, showcasing our commitment to pioneering research and advancing patient care. Additionally, our service to a large immigrant population exposes our fellows to clinical conditions that may not commonly be encountered in other programs, ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive training experience.
Our program boasts a robust outpatient dialysis component, allowing fellows to gain practical expertise in this critical aspect of nephrology care. Furthermore, through our intensive kidney transplant rotation with Columbia University Irving Medical Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, our fellows receive unparalleled training at one of the nation's leading transplant centers.
What truly sets our program apart is the supportive and energetic group of faculty who are passionate about teaching and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. With a low fellow-to-faculty ratio, each fellow benefits from close interaction and individual attention, a rare opportunity in larger programs.
As you embark on this transformative journey with us, the Nephrology Fellowship Program at NYC H+H/Harlem promises to nurture your growth as a nephrologist, empowering you to make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and the field of nephrology as a whole.
