Trella Allen, PT
Overview
Trella Allen is a Lecturer of Clinical Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine (Physical Therapy) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a practicing physical therapist at the Columbia Physical Therapy Faculty Practice in Tarrytown, and educator in the Programs in Physical Therapy. As a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Dr. Allen specializes in delivering individualized physical therapy treatment of patients of all ages with a wide range of musculoskeletal, sports, and spine injuries. With a specific focus in the non-operative and post-surgical care for scoliosis in adolescents and adults, Dr. Allen is certified as a Level 2 certified physical therapist for the advanced treatment of scoliosis through the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (based on the Schroth Method). Dr. Allen takes much pride in serving as a clinical instructor and mentor to students at the Columbia University Programs in Physical Therapy and teaches Yoga Integrated in Physical Therapy Practice.
Dr. Allen received her Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University. For over a decade, she focused her efforts as an educator with adolescents and in the yoga classroom. From this, she turned toward her own academic growth, studying Applied Physiology and earning her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Columbia University. She received the Joan Edelstein Award for her strong commitment to service and promise of becoming a distinguished representative of Columbia University.
Dr. Allen has participated in numerous opportunities to present on specialized topics at Columbia University Conservative Treatment in Scoliosis Conference and the Columbia University Programs in Physical Therapy, while continuing to collaborate with the Columbia Orthopedic Conservative Spine & Scoliosis Care Team for the development of treatment guidelines and research initiatives for scoliosis-specific patient care. In addition to her experience in physical therapy, Dr. Allen has accumulated over 1,000 hours of yoga teacher training certifications. As a result, Dr. Allen is an avid enthusiast about the mind-body connection, and treats the individual as a whole integrating her experiences in both physical therapy and yoga into many of her treatment plans in patient care, to assist the patient in reaching their goals.
In addition to clinical work, Dr. Allen loves to meditate, train at the gym, practice yoga, eat nutritious food, play lots of ball with her dog Ginger and of course, handstand.
