New Study Highlights Short-Term Safety of Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

A new study led by interventional radiologist and CADRe member Tarub Mabud, MD, and published in the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), analyzed nearly 60,000 women undergoing UFE or myomectomy. The researchers found that UFE was associated with fewer major adverse events within 30 days of the procedure, compared with abdominal and laparoscopic myomectomy, with the greatest difference seen compared with abdominal surgery. The findings underscore the importance of considering the specific surgical approach when comparing treatments—and can help inform conversations with patients seeking uterus-preserving options for symptomatic fibroids.
