Jerry Hsu, MD, MS joins Department of Ophthalmology

 

Jerry Hsu, MD, MS, a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery, has joined the full-time faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. His clinical expertise includes both medical and surgical management of corneal and external eye diseases, as well as cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. Hsu earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed residency training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, where he served as chief resident. He went on to complete a fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Earlier in his career, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Neurobiology, Biochemistry, and Biophysics, and a Master of Science in Chemistry.

His research focuses on infectious and inflammatory diseases of the cornea, and he has published on microbial keratitis and ocular toxicities related to systemic cancer therapies. Dr. Hsu has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Chairman’s Award for Academic Honors and Distinction during his residency and the Louis J. Girard Award for Outstanding Resident Research.

Dr. Hsu will be seeing patients at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Vanderbilt Clinic and at the Burch Family Eye Center at Lincoln Center. We are delighted to welcome him to Columbia Ophthalmology.
