Jennifer Gamarra Selected for University of Utah's Graduate Student Rising Stars Symposium

Jennifer Gamarra, a graduate student whose work focuses on the role of manganese in regulating Akt and hormonal responses to fed and fasted states, has been selected as a rising star in academia. Her outstanding contributions to both research and diversity advocacy have earned her an invitation to the nationally competitive University of Utah's 3rd Annual Graduate Rising Stars Symposium, slated for May 19-22, 2024.

Jennifer received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami, where she carried out research on diabetes in the lab of Ernesto Bernal-Mizrachi. She trained as a post-baccalaureate student in the lab of Jimena Giudice researchering skeletal muscle development.  Jennifer is currently a PhD student in the Integrated Program in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Studies, in the laboratory of Berrie Investigator Dr. Rebecca Haeusler.
