Educational Department Activity During COVID-19 Crisis
Working in resident-attending pairs, our physicians helped manage patients in the Emergency Department and in ICUs. Our residents developed a model for how to best incorporate surgical subspecialists into the care of critically ill patients who were suffering from COVID-19 infections.
Several educational initiatives were developed in the midst of the crisis, while routine urologic care was halted.
EMPIRE
EMPIRE (Educational Multi-Institutional Program for Instructing REsidents) Lecture Series is a collaborative virtual effort sponsored by the NY Section of the AUA, which was organized and hosted by one of our faculty members, Gina Badalato, in conjunction with two of our program residents, Michael Smigelski and Miyad Movassaghi, and our residency alumnus, Alex Small.
SIRC
SIRC (Surgical Interactive Resident Curriculum) is a faculty-run moderated sessions where videotaped index urologic cases were viewed and discussed by residents and attendings, virtually.
Fantasy Robotic Surgery League
Fantasy Robotic Surgery League is a team-based competition amongst residents to enhance robotic simulation opportunities and further robotic skill development, with attending “coaches” oversight.
