Dawn Hershman, MD, MS, has been appointed as the Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology

Dr. Hershman has served as Interim Chief and will now officially continue in this leadership role.

We are thrilled to announce that Dawn Hershman, MD, MS, has been appointed as the Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Hershman has served as Interim Chief and will now officially continue in this leadership role.

A distinguished physician-scientist, Dr. Hershman is an American Cancer Society Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology with Tenure at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and a member of the Association of American Physicians. She also serves as Deputy Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Hershman’s research contributions have focused on breast cancer and cancer care delivery. She is a Vice-Chair of the SWOG Cancer Research Network and Group Co-Chair Elect of SWOG Cancer Research Network. Her work has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Komen Scholar Award, the Irene and Arthur Fishberg Prize, and the ASCO David Karnofsky Science of Oncology Award.

Beyond her research and clinical care, Dr. Hershman is a dedicated mentor, having received the CUIMC Mentor of the Year Award and the ASCO/Conquer Cancer Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award. She is deeply committed to fostering a collaborative, innovative environment that drives scientific discovery and patient-centered care.

As Chief, Dr. Hershman will lead the Division in advancing cutting-edge cancer care and clinical trials, ensuring rapid access to high-quality treatment for all patients. She is passionate about training the next generation of oncologists and clinician-scientists, inspiring future leaders in the field, and creating an inclusive and dynamic research environment.
