Curious Minds Science Zone

On September 18, students from area elementary and middle schools gathered at 50 Haven Avenue for a day full of science, movement, and fun. The Programs in Physical Therapy was in attendance, as Dr. Laurel Abbruzzese and our DPT students led hands-on activities designed to bring movement science to life. The Curious Minds Science Zone was created to spark curiosity about the human body and inspire pathways into health-care professions.

Our booth featured interactive challenges and giveaways for participants. Students tested their strength with grip meters, competed in plank and balance challenges against friends—and even some of our PT student volunteers—and learned how physical therapists help people move better, recover from injury, and stay active.

Throughout the day, our PT students guided participants through each activity, answered curiosity-driven questions, and shared what it’s like to study and work in the field of physical therapy. Experiences like this highlight how the annual event bridges classroom learning with real-world application, reflecting our program’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and early engagement in movement science and rehabilitation.
