Benefits of Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview

Doctor performs Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one of the few hospitals in New York City that offers Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview (BLCC), a cutting edge diagnostic tool which aids in the detection and treatment of bladder cancer.

During the procedure, Cysview, an imaging solution, is injected into the bladder and absorbed by cancerous tissue.  After an initial standard white light cystoscopy to examine the bladder lining, the physician will switch to the blue light which highlights cancerous tumors making them more visible and defined.

James M. McKiernan, M.D. states blue light cystoscopy is a critical tool to help patients’ outcome.  The technology distinctively highlights cancerous tissue which under white light is not as apparent and defined.  Urologists at  NYPH, Columbia University Medical Center have been using this technology since late 2014.

Watch Dr. McKiernan and his patient discuss the benefits of Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview on ABC Special, Cancer Care – The Next Generation.
