Becky Haeusler Receives the 2023 Gill Award in Cardiovascular from the University of Kentucky

Rebecca Haeusler, PhD, a Berrie Investigator and Associate Professor of Medicine, was awarded the 2023 Early Career Gill Award by the Saha Research Center at the University of Kentucky. This award is given yearly to an investigator for innovation and creativity that has impacted cardiovascular research and advancements in clinical care. Dr. Haeusler’s studies of bile acids have transformed our understanding of lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity. She presented a lecture and received a monetary prize at the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center Symposium in Lexington, KY.

Rebecca Haeusler, PhD, originally hails from Michigan and obtained her undergraduate degree in biology at MIT before completing her PhD in biological chemistry at the University of Michigan. She joined the Berrie Center as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Mimmo Accili. A central focus of Dr. Haeusler’s research is on the proatherogenic metabolic abnormalities that occur during insulin resistance, with a particular focus on bile acids and lipoproteins. She is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association and has won awards for her research, including the David L. Williams Award for research on lipids and lipoproteins, the Journal of Clinical Investigation Lectureship Award, and the ATVB Special Recognition Award in Vascular Biology. Dr. Haeusler serves on the boards of the Deuel Lipid Conference and the Kern Lipid Conference, is an associate editor of Diabetes, and is an academic editor of PLOS Biology. In addition to being a Berrie Investigator, Dr. Haeusler is the associate director of the Digestive and Liver Disease Center and co-director of the Integrated PhD program.
