Challenges in Management of Bladder and Prostate Cancer in 2021: What Happens When the Standard of Care is Not Enough?
This symposium will focus on updating practitioners on recent developments in the management of high risk localized prostate cancer, BCG unresponsive nonmusclei invasive bladder cancer as well as the multidisciplinary management of muscle invasive bladder cancer. These updates will include descriptions of the epidemiology of these entities as well as recently published data describing innovative ways of managing these three clinical disease states. A particular focus will be placed on ongoing clinical trials available at Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Cancer Center.
The target audience of this seminar will include practicing Urologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners, and trainees interested in prostate and bladder cancer care.
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:
1. Recognize high risk localized prostate cancer and its treatment options including surgery, radiation, and neoadjuvant systemic therapies.
2. Define the disease state known as BCG unresponsive bladder cancer and review the available FDA approved as well as clinical trial therapies in this space.
3. Describe the results of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for muscle invasive bladder cancer and elaborate on the role of systemic immunotherapy in this setting.
