About Us
Established through a landmark gift from Roy and Diana Vagelos, the Vagelos Institute’s Biomedical Research Education (VIBRE) PhD Programs were founded to reimagine graduate training for a new era of science. While conceptual and technological revolutions have rapidly reshaped biomedical research, training has not kept apace—remaining bound by traditional silos and rigid structures. VIBRE was launched to break down those barriers, uniting students, faculty, and disciplines through a flexible, integrated model. By treating education itself as a catalyst for collaboration, VIBRE transforms training into a force for community-building and discovery, sparking science that bridges fields, connects ideas, and empowers the next generation to lead.
VIBRE spans three programs: Biomedical Life Sciences with ten disciplinary tracks, Neurobiology and Behavior with five specializations, and Biomedical Informatics with two specializations. Together, they offer a unified curriculum that is rigorous yet adaptable—built on strong scientific foundations and tailored to individual goals. With a deep commitment to mentorship and integrated career development, VIBRE prepares graduates not only for success in academia, but also for impactful careers in industry, public health, policy, and beyond.
