Message from the Division Chief
Welcome to the Division of Allen Medicine, within the Department of Medicine at Columbia University. We serve northern Manhattan, including the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods, as well as Riverdale and the Bronx. Our goal is to provide exceptional patient care while training the next generation of physicians in a community-based setting at one of the top academic centers in the world. Our physicians are all faculty members of the Department of Medicine at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physician and Surgeons.
We provide inpatient care at the Allen Hospital, one of the seven hospitals that comprise NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. The Allen hospital comprises 200 beds, including a 12-bedded ICU, an inpatient psychiatric unit, OB services, and the world-class Och Spine Hospital. Our hospitalist group provides inpatient care on dedicated hospitalist and teaching services. In addition, they are at the forefront of educating medical students and residents on our teaching services and leading quality and patient safety initiatives throughout the hospital. Our medical subspeciality services are staffed by faculty within the divisions of the Department of Medicine, and many fellows rotate through the Allen Hospital as part of their training at NYP. We offer ambulatory sub-specialty services at our ColumbiaDoctors Riverdale site.
Led by two double-boarded geriatric and palliative care physicians, the Allen Hospital offers an innovative geriatrics and palliative care consult service. This service comprises the major footprint for geriatric medicine at the Columbia campus.
Our internal medicine-trained primary care physicians provide outstanding care to the Washington Heights and Inwood communities in New York Presbyterian’s Ambulatory Care Network. These clinics are a major teaching site for Columbia’s medical students and residents. The faculty is also involved in community-based research.
We invite you to learn more about our exceptional patient care, educational opportunities and research.
