Medical Students

Allen Hospital plays a vital role in the education of medical students from the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, offering a rich and supportive environment for clinical learning across all stages of training.
In the pre-clinical years, our faculty actively participate in the foundational course Foundations in Clinical Medicine (FCM), where students learn essential skills such as history-taking, physical examination, and clinical documentation. This early exposure to patient care is guided by experienced clinicians who are deeply committed to teaching and mentorship.
During the third year, medical students join our inpatient teaching ward service for their Internal Medicine clerkship, where they become integral members of the care team, working alongside residents, attendings, and other learners in a collaborative, high-acuity setting.
In the fourth year, students have the opportunity to deepen their clinical experience through sub-internshipson our hospitalist services and in the Allen ICU, where they take on increased responsibility under close supervision, preparing them for the transition to residency.
Additionally, students rotate through the Ambulatory Care Clinic system for their primary care experience, where they are mentored by our dedicated Allen-based faculty. These outpatient rotations emphasize continuity of care, preventive medicine, and patient communication—core skills for any future physician.
At Allen Hospital, we are proud to be a cornerstone of medical education, offering students a rigorous, supportive, and inspiring environment to grow into the compassionate, skilled physicians of tomorrow.
