    Melanie joined Columbia University in May 2015 as Chief of Staff for the Columbia Precision Medicine Initiative and joined CIMBID in July, 2026.

    Prior to joining Columbia, Melanie spent 14 years at Nature Publishing Group as Editor and Publisher. As an Editor for Nature Immunology, she was responsible for selecting manuscripts for peer review, making decisions about article suitability based on journal criteria and referee reports. At Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, she was responsible for commissioning scholarly reviews on a variety of subjects. Melanie was Publisher for the Nature Biopharma journals, including Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, and Nature Chemical Biology and championed and proposed the launch of Nature Biomedical Engineering.

    Melanie completed a post-doctoral position at Weill Cornell Medical School and carried out graduate research in molecular immunology at the National Institute for Medical Research (now The Francis Crick Institute). She was awarded a PhD by University College, London.
