Research
Faculty members in the Department of Neuroscience use a wide range of approaches to study fundamental aspects of neural circuit development, organization, and function. They share a common goal of relating the biology of such circuits to the control of normal and abnormal behavior. A broad array of animal models, as well as human subjects, are examined using approaches including electrophysiology, biophysics, molecular and cell biology, systems neuroscience, brain imaging, behavioral analysis, and theory. Interdisciplinary research is facilitated by widespread collaboration between different laboratories both at Columbia and within the greater scientific community.
